UPDATE ON JOY, 12/21/2020

1 day shy of 3weeks, she went from dropping dead in a parking lot, to... sleeping in her own bed now. Doc's called this morning and said she was coming home. She came in, said hello to the dogs, ate a Chicken taco (heart healthy), and went to bed.  Downside, is that with all the time she had waiting, she went through the blog, and saw I posted a picture of her.  I'm pre-scheduling my trip to the ER, and have removed frying pans, bats, clubs and sticks from her reach. I still have speed on her... but she can be crafty.  Thank you all for your prayers. Been a rough spell ... but turned out to be a great Christmas!!  ... I bet, she'll be back on here in no time -  Randy
UPDATE ON JOY - 12/17/2020 Okie dokie... realizing that she'll read back through these when she gets home, and also realizing I was grounded for life in the late 70's.. Hah!! I've got nothing to lose!!  She's what some referred to as... sassy, today. Off the ventilator, and pretty stable. 👍 <PICTURE REMOVED - RANDY HAS BLACK EYE> Seconds later, you would have seen her tongue sticking out with "P-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t" followed... ($5 says she punches me...) She actually worked with getting out of bed and deep breathing solely for the purpose of doing what she needs to get home.  2 weeks and 2 days ago, they were doing CPR on her in a parking lot ... Today, sticking her tongue out issuing raspberries... YOUR prayers brought this result to bear... Never, ever forget the importance of speaking to the King of the Universe. He hears each and every supplication!! THANK YOU!! (PS: if I go missing... it was likely because I posted the pic...)
UPDATE ON JOY - 12-15-2020 The Doc's just informed her tomorrow is the surgery day. My sister said she was there and her BP was running high, so likely, it's time to get the plumbing fixed! We don't know the time yet, so I'll be there in the AM, and keep everyone updated as things progress -  Randy
UPDATE ON JOY 12-14-2020 You're not going to believe this... but, there is a chance Mom may be home by Christmas!  I spoke to her cardiologist who said that they will see how her rhythm goes after the bypass is complete before proceeding with a pacemaker.  At the moment, her surgery is scheduled for Thursday. As she looks today, rehab would be for 1 week after that.  Thank you all for your prayers. Clearly, they have had a great affect.  Randy
UPDATE ON JOY - 12/12/2020 She had a rougher day today. It seems when her heart isn't in a good rhythm, it might be depriving her brain of oxygen - we hope.  Yesterday, she was clear and sharp, today, not so much, but had a lot of rhythm issues. I spoke to the cardiologist, who said they are doing the bypass - and - a pacemaker at the same time. Between these 2 procedures, it would giver her the best chance of getting to her highest function and shorten rehab.  I cannot thank you all enough for the prayers sent. She needs them. While being ornery and having tenacity gets most of us through the day, we need our bodies to cooperate.  Her bypass and pacemaker time/date hasn't been determined, but is likely middle next week. We'll know much more a few days after that -  Thank you all!! Randy
UPDATE ON JOY 12/10/2020 Rougher day - If anyone gets a call from Mom, where she tries to get you to help her at home with Cardiac rehab, tell her she needs to talk to me. She's officially grounded for life due to not listening. This morning, she decided she'd be discharged on Sunday, come home, and things would be like they were. Part of that comes from her really missing home.  A few things - they've determined is that she had a minor stroke. If you've spoke to her on the phone, she sounds a little different. That's because she has a little harder time moving her tongue to the right.  She had an Angiogram today, and will need a full bypass. The cardiologist said that her blockages exceed what a stint can provide relief for. Without the bypass, she won't survive the next cardiac standstill. That should occur later next week. She'll be transferred to a surgical hospital that her cardiologist  prefers. And - She agreed to it!!  After all that, she'll b
UPDATE ON JOY, 12-9-2020 Well, she's awake. (Oh boy is she awake). When she woke, she has no memory of what happened, or how she got there. She's not entirely out of the woods yet, but greatly improved.  She has an angiogram tomorrow, and given the number of arrhythmias, she'll have a pacemaker put in sometime after that. She's called 3 times this morning asking for chapstick, her bible and toothbrush. She does have her cell phone with her.  Once I hear the results of the Angiogram, I'll get another update out. Randy
UPDATE ON JOY 12-6-2020 I'm sorry for not sending an update yesterday - Today, they are going to take Mom off the ventilator. Afterwards, she will likely be awake more and sedated less (unless she decides she's leaving the place!) I'm trying to get as many family members in there to see her as we can. 1 visitor per day. Today, her sister gets to visit.  Mom is pretty frustrated, I think still not understanding what's going on. She could use a healthy soaking in peace. As soon as I hear from her sister, I'll let you know how she's doing.  Randy
UPDATE ON JOY FROM RANDY Sorry for the delay - I left Virginia in the early AM, and spent the afternoon with Mom. When I got there, she was actually awake, with a look that convinced me I was grounded again. She had to be restrained because she tries to pull the intubation tube out. She can only nod yes and no at the moment. At first she didn't know who I was (not grounded then), but when I lifted the mask she knew. She's very wide eyed, so I asked her yes/no questions. She doesn't know how she got in the hospital, and doesn't remember being at the store when she went down. When I asked her if she was afraid, tears rolled out of her eyes. After a number of questions, I asked if she was afraid she was going to die, she nodded no, and dozed for a bit. She is warmed up, and they are starting to wean her from the intubation tube. Tomorrow, if she tolerates 2 hours of it, the Docs want to discuss removing it. Little by little there is progress... Thank you all for your pray
Update on Joy During the night, she threw arrhythmias, one was a V-tach, but she managed to come out of it on her own without meds or defibrillation. She's still be re-warmed, and is breathing room air, without needing additional O2 (really good sign).  During the night, she opened her eyes briefly, and moved her legs, but re-sedated her. As I write this, she is throwing more arrhythmias, (suppressed T Waves if there's any medical folks out there), so today will be focused on getting her electrolytes in balance, and continuing to rewarm her.  The good things are breathing room air without the need of additional O2, and opening her eyes at the lower end of sedation. Thank you all for your prayers!!! THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!! Remember in our daily endeavors, we are called ONLY to holiness (a mirror image of Christ).  Hebrews 12:14 -  Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without  holiness  no one will see the Lord. This task, is the ONLY thing we take to th

IDENTIFY YOUR WEAKNESSES, AND MAKE NO PROVISION FOR THEM.

Hello all - This is Randy, Joy's son. My Mom was found in the HEB parking lot yesterday after having a heart attack. CPR was started right away, and she's currently in ICU.  Say a prayer for her today - They have cooled her body down to give her heart time to mend. Below, is a "Thought For the Day" she was going post but had in draft.  This is a good thing, because I was likely to post stories about her chasing chickens, having had 14 cats at one time or the myriad of tech support events that have you just shaking your head - Knowing she'll review this, let me state ahead of time: "Sorry Mom, but... gotcha!" Enjoy today's post - I'm thinking it has a special meaning today -  ======================================================== MANY OF THOSE WHO ARE SHUT IN, HAVE THEIR TV, OR COMPUTER TO KILL TIME WITH. GOD'S WORD SAYS, WE ARE TO PURIFY OUR SOUL.

SOME WORKS IN OUR LIFE ARE TO BE DONE BY US INSTEAD OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. YES, HE IS THERE TO HELP AND TO POINT OUT WHERE WE NEED TO PURIFY OUR SOUL.  BUT THE WORK IS UP TO US. YOU ASK, HOW DO WE PURIFY OUR OWN SOUL? WE PURIFY OUR SOUL BY OBEYING GOD'S WORD AND DEMONSTRATING GOD'S LOVE. 1 PETER 1: 22-23 SINCE YOU HAVE PURIFIED YOUR SOULS IN OBEYING THE TRUTH THROUGH THE SPIRIT IN SINCERE LOVE OF THE BRETHREN,  LOVE ONE ANOTHER FERVENTLY WITH A PURE HEART, HAVING BEEN BORN AGAIN, NOT OF CORRUPTIBLE SEED BUT INCORRUPTIBLE , THROUGH THE WORD OF GOD WHICH LIVES AND ABIDES FOREVER. SO, HOW DO YOU PURIFY YOUR SOUL? BY OBEYING GOD'S WORD THAT SAYS YOU ARE TO HAVE FERVENT LOVE FOR THE BRETHREN. BELOVED, THOSE OF US WHO ARE BORN AGAIN BY THE SPIRIT  OF GOD, ARE FAMILY.  MORE THAN OUR NATURAL FAMILY, SOME WHO DO NOT SERVE GOD. REMEMBER WHEN JESUS' MOTHER AND BROTHERS CAME SEEKING HIM? LUKE 8: 19-21 THEN HIS MOTHER AND BROTHERS CAME TO HIM, AND COULD NOT APPROACH HIM BECAUSE OF THE
