WHAT IS AN IDOL IN TODAYS WORLD, AND IN A BELIEVERS LIFE?

An idol is a person or thing that is greatly loved and admired  or revered.

In our Christian world, an idol is anything that replaces or competes with Jesus in our thoughts or our affections or our worship.

Idolatry is giving worship or reverence or our devotion to anything other than the one true God!

Beloved, anything that replaces our time with the Lord, will rob us of the best God has for us.

Matthew 6:31-32

Therefore do not worry, saying, 'what shall we eat?' or what shall we drink?' or what shall we wear? For all these things the Gentiles seek.  For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these.

"But seek you first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added to you.

God will provide all our needs.

Idolatry is anything or one you spend your most time with.

Wherever we go we see people with their phones, either talking or checking something on them.  That phone can be an idol to them.

If they misplace it, they panic, "where is it"

It can have a stronghold on their mind.

So much so, I have seen people in the store so involved with their phones they almost run into to a thing or people.

Daniel 12:4 (Read 12:1-13)

"But you Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase."

Beloved, our times are what the Angel said to Daniel.

Knowledge has greatly increased.

The other person was Jesus with the angels that were talking to Daniel.

The TV, or phone, or computer can be your shepherd.

It can lead you away from righteousness. It can stunt your growth in the Lord.

Here is some of a poem written in the 70's by an unknown author.

"The TV is my shepherd, my spiritual growth I shall want.  It makes me sit down and do nothing for His names sake., because it requires all my time.

It keeps me from doing my duty as a Christian, because it presents so many shows I must see.

It restores my knowledge of the things in the world, and keeps me from studying God's word.

The TV is my closest companion, it's sounds and pictures comfort me.

It keeps me from doing important things with my family.

It fills my head with ideas which differ from those set forth in the word of God. (This could apply to our phone also.)

This is just part of this poem, called the 23nd TV channel.

I know this is an eye opener, and can be applied to all our media.

I remember when well known Pastor's stated that they no longer have a TV.

They were right, the enemy has taken over the people who are behind the scenes. David Wilkerson saw all this in the future.

Beloved we are living in a time that requires our undivided attention in what God's word has to say.

We must put God first in your day and your life.

You will have more time for your family and friends and others in the body of Christ.

We have been given beautiful things for our life. Fresh air, parks, oceans, mountains, lakes and river to go and enjoy.

Enjoy your leisure time, but first put Jesus first in your life, then our necessary chores.

I know there are funny things to watch on your TV, and you can find clean decent things to watch, but just Put Jesus First.

Be very choosey what you view.

Psalm 101:2-4

I will behave wisely in a perfect way. Oh, when will you come to me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.

I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate those who fall away; It shall not cling to me.

A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will not know wickedness.

What I love about this Psalm, is that it explains where a perverse heart comes from, it comes from viewing wicked things.

Guard your eyes and ears from anything that disturbs your mind or soul. That includes some news. So much deception in the news.

View the Christian news, where you see thousands of people coming to Jesus and being baptized.

What a great praise to our Lord. A great moving of the Holy Spirit.

Remember the Holy Spirit is inside you, do not grieve Him. Check to see if there is an idol in your life.

Let the Holy Spirit lead you to green pastures, where you will be fed God's word and grow to be like Jesus.

God bless your day

Jesus loves you

So many idols available today. None are worthy 🙌. Jesus will not allow us to make Him second fiddle.

So good Momma Joy. So timely for me. And as Mike said, so many things in our culture are idols, we just don’t see them as such. We can even make idols out of things that are otherwise good. Rusty
