WALKING ON THE ROAD TO EMMAUS WITH HEAVY HEARTS. Part 1.
Walking on the road to Emmaus with heavy hearts, and very disappointed after Jesus was crucified and resurrected.
Cleopas, one of the disciples entered in with a conversation with Jesus, not knowing that it was Him.
Luke 24:13-35 (Read the whole account)
Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day (after the resurrection) to a village seven miles from Jerusalem.
And as they talked together of all these things which has happened. So it was while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them.
But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him.
17. And Jesus said to them, "What kind of conversation is this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad.
Jesus noticed how sad they were and that they only saw Jesus as a prophet. So as they walked
Jesus began to quote the word of God to them, and beginning at Moses and the prophets, Jesus expounded the scriptures concerning Himself.
As they came to the house at evening, they asked Jesus to stay with them.
As Jesus sat at the table with them, He took bread broke it, and gave it to them.
Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him.
Not just about Him, as so many today have knowledge of Jesus but they don't know him intimately.
I see a couple beautiful messages here.
1. They didn't know Jesus until they invited Him into their house. think about this, our heart is His house.
We don't know Him until we invite Him in as our Savior and Lord.
2. In the breaking of bread, Jesus revealed Himself.
Beloved,
Holy communion is not a ritual, it is sharing fellowship with Jesus.
He is the bread of life. His shed blood has great power to heal, forgive and redeem and restore us.
When we have spent time with Jesus, it is so refreshing, like a cool shower on a hot day.
During the Holy Communion, see Jesus giving it to you as He did to those disciples.
Your eyes will be opened to all His goodness and love for you.
Jesus brought light into their heavy hearts of darkness.
He drew them out by asking them to tell Him all that had happened.
Beloved, Jesus does the same with us.
If we have a heavy heart and are disappointed, the Lord will remind us who we are in Him.
He will share with us that a garment of Praise is what we need for a spirit of heaviness.
Have you ever sat with a heavy heart looking for a scripture to help you?
I have. That's when the Holy Spirit gave me an idea for a song. It goes like this.
"Prepare my heart Oh God for what's ahead of me, Prepare my heart oh God, to know the plan you see, Prepare my heart Oh God, to walk in
, Prepare my heart oh God to be all you see. (That's just the chorus)
This was right before we moved to another state. But you get the idea.
God will always replace a heavy heart with hope and direction. Something to lift your spirit and change your focus.
To get your eyes off self and onto Jesus.
