ARE YOU BEING CHEATED BY PHILOSOPHY?

Philosophy is the pursuit  of truth, an effort to make since of the world, and self.

SELF is, serving emotion loving favor.

Colossians 2:8

Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and NOT according to Christ.

From a secular viewpoint, philosophy is an attempt to understand self, people and the world. The worlds phycology.

Since old self is to die, when we come to Jesus as our Savior, why would we spend precious time checking out self. Dead feels nothing.

That can become an idolatry.

Now theology is an all encompassing study of God and His word.

We can see that God has revealed things in His creation and in His word.

Paul addresses this at Mars hill with the philosophers. Those seeking worldly wisdom. 

Acts 17:22-25 (read the whole chapter)

Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said "Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; "for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with the inscription; TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.

Therefore, the One who you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you; "God who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshipped with men's hands, as He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.

The philosophers debated about any new thing to add to their religion with their idols.

Notice, Paul did not rebuke them, for their idolatry, but he did share the truth of God's word.

Paul in verse 27 -34, Paul makes it plain, that we are to worship the Lord, not idols. 

The One who created all things and people.

Some believed Paul and followed him.

The worlds wisdom is not God's wisdom. That is why New Age is so deadly to our life. 

If we decide to add to God's word things in the world,  apart from godly wisdom, we are being cheated of the best God has for us in Christ Jesus our Lord. Repent! change your mind, turn to Jesus.

The worlds wisdom is not God's wisdom, that wisdom is delivered to us by the Holy Spirit.

Beloved, pray for godly wisdom that can only satisfy your soul.

The new age teaching, only bring confusion, and God is not the author of confusion.

James 3:13-17

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in meekness of wisdom.

But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.

This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.

For where self seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

Beloved, when we have the wisdom of God, we will teach our mouth, and add learning to our lips, if we have godly wisdom.

Proverbs 16:23

The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, And adds learning to his lips.

When we have Godly wisdom we will never accept the mixture that the new age puts out. 

Philosophy that comes from the world, will rob you of the goodness God has for you.

Beloved, it is your choice to seek out the truth of God, keep your eyes on Jesus, and watch out for the half truths, and confusion in the worlds teaching.

Colossians 2:6-10

As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the traditions of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 

For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

Beloved, think and meditate on those last scriptures, let the Holy Spirit instill in you this truth. 

If God is the head of all principality, and He is, then we have nothing to fear. That is ALL principality and power. 

Keep feeding on the word of God and trust the Holy Spirit to teach you. Not man with his mixture of half truths.

Be settled in your mind, God's word makes the changes needed by the Holy Spirit. 

To know Jesus Christ is to be intimately acquainted with Him and know that He loves you, don't just know about Him, KNOW HIM!!
