We are called the salt of the earth, so what is our purpose in being salt.
Jesus said we are the salt of the earth. What does salt do?
It is a preservative, throughout history salt was to used to cure meats. To preserve fish so it would not spoil.
Salt is a seasoning, to make our food taste better.
When we have any kind of salty food, it makes us thirsty, right?
So are we making people around us thirsty for Jesus and all He has to offer?
It is said, "you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink. Oh yes you can, by putting salt in his oats. He will get thirsty.
The words we speak should make people thirsty for Jesus, because we are the salt of the earth. Words of kindness, love, grace, compassion and mercy.
Mark 9:50
Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.
Matthew 5:13
"You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned.
It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
We are salt and light to this world. Jesus left us here with a responsibility to reach others for His kingdom, and to see souls saved.
Next time you are out and about, keep in mind that you are the salt of the earth, those souls standing next to you may need the Lord or words of hope and healing in their life.
We have that hope and assurance of salvation.
I have seen so many times how God has placed people in my path, because He knows I am alert to see others come to faith in Him.
As believers there are no coincidences in our life, all our days are planned and already set in motion, it is up to us to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Don't ever assume that person sitting next to you in church is saved, many just go to church searching for peace of mind.
Some leave the same way they came in. That's sad, when those that walk with Lord could help them see that they need Jesus, a personal relationship with Him, not a bunch of religion, you must do this or that, religion puts it all on you and what you have to do for God.
Let God do for you, He loves you. Jesus died for you!
Yes, there are disciplines, but that is after you have come to Christ, and are saved by the precious blood of Jesus.
Religion is man working His way to God with his good deeds, when in fact God came down to man and provided His wonderful grace, something we can never earn.
Accept it and enjoy your life in Christ.
Beloved, if you walk with the Lord, you are already aware of those lost or hurting souls around you, I call them divine appointments.
Be the salt and light the world needs. Preserve life, and make people thirsty for Jesus.
Just speaking His name carries all the power you will need, the Holy Spirit will do the rest.
I pray every time you pick up a salt shaker, you will be reminded of who you are. The salt of the earth!
