Though you are free in Christ, freedom has a discipline connected to it.
Yes we are free in Jesus, but with that freedom we must be under discipline, as Jesus' disciples.
We are free from sin that causes guilt and shame and a confused mind, yet we have a new nature in Jesus Christ, and with that new nature comes things that we must avoid, things that are not good for us, things that will put a smirch on us, a stain or spot.
Things that will lead to sin.
Unforgiving spirit, gossip, being judgmental, critical, prideful, self-centered, lying, obstinate, stubborn, defensive.
We are no longer free to gossip, to speak ill of anyone for any reason.
When you are tempted to speak ill of someone, Remember from where the Lord has brought you from.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
I use this scripture a lot because it must sink in our mind, we have to renew our mind in God's word so as to direct our thoughts to be that of Holy Spirit's thoughts.
Our spirit has become new, but as you can see, our bodies have not adjusted to the new us.
They still age and ache at times.
We still have the same bodies, but they have a right to be healed now that we are in Christ Jesus our Lord and they can become stronger.
Some day, we will receive our new bodies, but until then, we are to take care of this one that was made in the image of God.
Only sin has put corruption on it, we now age and need healing.
Our soul, our mind, will and emotions, are becoming new, that is our growing process.
It only comes as we apply ourselves to the word of God, and live by what it says. Follow Jesus!
1 Timothy 4:8-9
For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and that which is to come.
This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance.
That is where the discipline comes in, with our freedom. We are to grow in godliness.
Colossians 3:9-10
Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds., and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.
Beloved, we are new in our spirit, but we have certain disciplines as believer's, to not use our freedom in the wrong way, not for sin. (to miss the mark)
Galatians 5:13-14
For you brethren, have been called to liberty, only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this "You shall love your neighbor as yourself"
Yes beloved, we do have freedom in Jesus Christ, but we also have a responsibility to reflect our Lord's nature in all we do by being disciplined..
God Bless your day
