WHAT WERE THE NEW COMMANDMENTS THAT JESUS GAVE TO HIS DISCIPLES? Part 1
God is not only the God of grace, He is also the God who expects obedience , because we love Him.
When we gave our life to Jesus and accepted all He provides for us, then we are to obey His word.
Luke 6:46
"But why do you call Me Lord, Lord, and do not do the things which I say?
Don't confuse the Ten Commandments with the ones Jesus gave His disciples.
He expounds on those and added more.
Jesus breaks down the Commandments and makes it clear to understand.
He teaches beyond the Ten Commandments of the law, which involves mans effort.
Matthew 22:36-40
Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law"
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.
This is the first commandment. The second is like it. "You shall love your neighbor as yourself,
"On these two commandments hang all the law and the Prophets."
Matthew 6:33
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
What things? Our clothes, food, all that we will need.
Matthew 5:33-35
"Again I have heard that it was said to those of old. You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oath to the Lord.
"But I say to you, do not swear at all; neither by heaven, for it is God's throne; nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
John 3:5-7 (Jesus explaining to Nicodemus)
Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
That which is born of flesh, is flesh, and that which is born of Spirit is Spirit.
"Do not marvel that I said to you, "You must be born again. The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.
These are believers who follow the Holy Spirit.
He leads to places we would never plan on going to, but He has a plan and we will fulfill it, in order to reach those He wants us to reach.
John15:3-11
"You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.
"Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
" If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and withered; and they gather them and throw them in the fire, and they are burned.
"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
"By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
"As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.
"If you keep My Commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.
These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.
Beloved, can you see the way Jesus expounded on the commandments?
All through His message you will find the words if you abide.
Apart from Jesus we can do nothing. We must stay connected to Him, in order for us to abide.
To abide means:
to stay put, wait, reside and lodge there. It means to take up permanent residence. Just make yourself at home.
Expecting something in the future. Heaven!! Where we will be with Jesus.
Matthew 5:40-42 (Read all of chapter 5, it is packed full of Jesus' commandments)
"If anyone wants to sues you and take away your tunic, let him have your clock also.
"And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.
Give to everyone who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.
Then Jesus expounds on loving your enemies.
We will continue this message next week, as there is so much to cover.
I encourage you to read all of chapter 5 and 6 of Matthew. John 15.
God bless your day
Jesus loves you
