Why is self-control listed last in the fruit of the Spirit?
God certainly knows His children and our human nature.
Galatians 5:22-23 (Fruit of the Spirit)
First we receive the fruit of love, then we feel the joy, and the peace of God that settles in our soul.
Remember playing with a baby, they feel your love as we feel the Father's love.
They coo and laugh, they sleep in peace knowing you love them.
Now comes longsuffering, growing pains.
Trying to walk, but we keep falling down.
Tests and trials come, as we must grow through them to become stronger.
Psalm 127:2
It is vain for you to rise early, and sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; For so He gives His beloved sleep.
Proverbs 3:24
When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down, and your sleep will be sweet.
When we have learned to long-suffer in the Lord, we become a kinder person, whereas, before we went through the suffering, we were not as understanding or kind to everyone, no matter their situation.
Don't you love this, now goodness has been developed, and faithfulness, gentleness.
All these attributes of the fruit of the Spirit become developed in us after we have learned to long suffer.
Now after going through all of the things we have learned, now, you would think we would have learned to have self -control, but that was the last
attribute listed. Ummm!
God certainly knows self-control is the last to develop in us.
We think that we are mature in that area, until the right person pushes our buttons, and lo and behold, out comes that old nature, apart from the fruit of the Spirit.
Self-control is denying that urge to retaliate, speak unkind things, go off on a tangent.
It is denying self access, to the old sinful nature.
We have a new nature in us, but self does try to override that sweet gentle new nature.
Therefore, remember that self is your enemy, it wants preeminence, tell it no!
Tell it to get back in the grave. We have been buried with Christ, resurrected to newness of life.
So beloved, when you feel like you are going out of control, stop, think who you are in Jesus, and pray for God to control the situation.
Rest in the Lord, tired over active people tend to go off in the flesh, Rest in the Lord!
Jesus is Lord and you will follow Him, and reveal the fruit of the Spirit, including self-control.
God Bless your day
